In the 12th and 13th centuries, pirates were an essential part of the economy of the city of Omis, located in Dalmatia, Croatia. The Omis Pirates were the most influential pirates on the Mediterranean Sea, and their history still marks the town. Every year, amongst the numerous activities in Omis, is a music and pirate festival in the center of the city.
The city has varied landscapes, including beaches, bays and mountains. Cetina River and the Adriatic Sea meet west of the city, with many cliffs. Mountain Dinara is connected to the mountain Biokovo – the second-highest mountain range in Croatia.
Omis is a popular tourist destination because of its rich history, the singing festivals that celebrate the city, and the diverse landscapes. You can enjoy outdoor adventures at the sea, in canyons, mountains, or along the Cetina River.
