Consuming healthy food and snacks helps DeMarcus Ware stay fueled for exercise.
Former National Football League (NFL) defensive star DeMarcus Ware won millions of supporters with his ability to dominate and beat teams that were not his. The ex- Dallas Cowboy and Denver Bronco All-Pro has a brand new job: helping others to improve their health and fitness. He discussed the things that keep him motivated and his most-loved healthy food and the ways the family he has led leads healthier lives.
You’ve said you’re in better shape at retirement than you were when you played on the NFL. What is the reason for this?
Being able to retire from the NFL has enabled me to lead more of a healthy life style. I’m able to get more time to rest and recover between workouts, and my body isn’t beaten up and bruised all the time. I’ve also cut down on the amount of calories I consume. Many people believe that life ends after you retire. For me, it’s begun!
Tell us about your diet.
I eat three meals that are healthy each day. I also eat a few healthy snacks. As an example, I generally have oatmeal with blueberries in the morning before my 45-minute workout. Then I eat the full breakfast, which includes things like brown rice chicken sausage, eggs and shakes with protein. Lunch will consist of fish as well as broccoli and whole grain rice. In the evening, I’ll be eating an unfathomably lean meal, some vegetables along with sweet potato. Additionally, every week, I make myself a treat with foods that I’m not able to enjoy on other days. If I’m in a position to be tempted to eat food I’m not supposed to, it’s helpful to remind myself that I can indulge however, not the day.
When did you start your healthy habits?
When I was a child I played four sports and was always conscious to be healthy. I researched the diets of athletes I hoped to emulate. Therefore, I started eating better and healthier. I was unable to afford the fresh food that the stars were eating, so I did buy frozen versions that were still nutritious.
How do you encourage fitness and healthy eating habits into your children?
Making sure your children have an enjoyable experience with healthy food choices is crucial. If I told my kids that I don’t love the taste of sweet potatoes and taste, they wouldn’t be a fan of sweet potatoes. However, if I instead sprinkle a tiny amount of cinnamon and brown sugar on them, and say the taste is like sweet potato pie be enthralled by it. Concerning fitness my daughter and son were not keen on exercise when they first started. They now enjoy being able going out to do whatever exercise they want to do because we all do it together and make it enjoyable. It’s a part of our daily routine as a family.
What is it that motivates you to exercise even when you’re not feeling like it?
We all require assistance with motivation every now and then. I enjoy using both visual and audio imagery. I’ll put together an upbeat playlist and listen to inspirational speech. I also enjoy looking at photos of fitness role models who inspire me with what I want to accomplish by working out. It helps me form an image in my mind of how I’d like to appear like and have a toned, well-fit body.
What other health habits are you trying to stay on top of your health?
I practice stretching and utilize a foam roller to release the tension in my muscles both in the morning and at evening before going to bed. I’m also sleeping and taking a break more often. I used to fall asleep at midnight, and rise early at 6:30 a.m. Then I sleep until 10:30 p.m. I feel healthier due to this.
You appeared on”Dancing with the Stars” season 27 “Dancing with the Stars.” What role did your fitness play into the show?
The competition in “Dancing with the Stars” (DWTS) was among the most difficult experiences I’ve ever had. In football, I played on the defensive line and was referred to as a body movers. To fulfill my role I needed to move players that were six feet tall and weighing 365 lbs. To be a part of “DWTS” I had to be a sweet foot, with sparkling toes! I needed to train myself differently, with a particular concentration on mental speed. I’m still performing dance currently as part of my workout routine as it demands you to think when you’re dancing.
What will the future look at DeMarcus Ware?
My goal is to motivate individuals to get fitter. Recently, I started an exercise facility in Texas in the state where I reside. I’m also launching a brand new digital fitness application. I was an undergraduate in computer science at college, so I was interested in applying my education to my knowledge of fitness.
